News about fracking in San Miguel County

Ban Fracking in San Miguel County petition. With your help, we’ve reached 1659 signers, growing at 22 signers per day! We are doing great, but we can do more!  🙂

If we are going to have an impact, it’s critical that more people contact the San Miguel County Commissioners.

Can you please forward this email to five of your friends right now? With your help, we can reach our goal! Share this link: http://signon.org/sign/ban-fracking-in-san-miguel?source=s.icn.em.cr&r_by=2572822&mailing_id=6740

Thank you for taking a stand on this important issue.

Bernard Schaer, Ban Fracking in San Miguel County, NM Campaign
P.S. Here is another group that is struggling to fight Fracking. You might like to help them out by signing their petition as well. I did. Here is the link: http://signon.org/sign/investigate-pa-dep-for?source=s.icn.em.cr&r_by=2572822&mailing_id=6740

LATEST UPDATES
It is becoming apparent that the residents of San Miguel County do not want fracking anywhere in the county. We have more petitions to give to our commissioners at their meeting Tuesday, November 13th at 1:30 pm. At this time we have 1, 287 signatures and we will have more by the 13th.   Good work everyone!

Important Meeting: Sunday November 18th 7 pm at the Newman Center on 8th and Columbia. This Town Hall Meeting, moderated by Eddie Tafoya, has many members of the community on a panel. It is urgent for all of us to be at the town hall meeting to voice our concerns and questions about the oil and gas leases, and what fracking means to us. Only 3 months until Feb and the permits will be issued!  We hope the building is packed and we all learn more about this industry that is tearing up the land wherever it goes.

The public hearing for the county Regulatory Ordinance is the next day – November 19th 1-7 pm in the Commissioners Chambers in the County Courthouse.

Daniel Bannock’s Democracy School
This is time well spent: 2 evenings, starting on Monday, Nov the 5th and then Monday the 12th for a couple of hours each time. This video will help us understand the law. Mayor Ortiz was threatened with a law suit (which hasn’t happened) when the Community Rights Ordinance passed in April. We have heard other threats to elected officials and this Democracy School will explain what the the real threats are, and what is just bullying. Please call Cordia if you have any questions at 426-1468. This is for everyone!
There will be discussion and time for questions. Come to the first session on Monday, November 5th at 6 pm at the Presbyterian Community Room. We will have popcorn and other snacks to entice you. It is across from the main post office and easy to find.

The online petition to ban fracking really took off – check it out: signon.org.
